"Just
before the battle, mother...."
It should have been a walk in the park.
We had the bluebelly infantry outnumbered for a
change.
Steve was hoping to bag a Yankee with size 14
brogans. |
| Webmaster Trooper Jim captured a
Yankee Sergeant, Pat Pulver, from the 2nd Battery Vermont Light Artillery
- but let him go after learning they were to serve aboard the same U.S. Navy
Cruiser 100 years later. That turned out
to be a BIG mistake. |

|
 |
We all mustered in fairly high
spirits, aided in part by several jugs of home-brewed high spirits the night before. |
| Major D sallied forth, leading the
assault armed only with a pistol and a bag of courage |

|
 |
Lt. Kenny was taking no chances
with courage alone... he carried six pistols and a canteen full of corn whiskey into the
fray. He looked like a walking
advertisement for Mr. Sam Colt. |
The
trees afforded us good cover, we were sure to finish off the thin Yankee infantry in time
for early chow.
Unfortunately, they had cover
too.... |
 |
 |
Yep, them DamYankees had plenty of
cover, all right... the 2nd Battery Vermont Light Artillery And, they wuz shootin' 9-round cannister grape. |
| Naturally, we was just about all
kilt right there on the spot. Cpl. Keator
was first to muster into Heaven, so he got first pick of the angels. |

|
The rest of us were assigned to
temporary duty in purgatory,
which we found to be a little warmer than Troy, and not nearly as colorful.
